Some Inchmarlo boys were busy competing in a chess tournament in Dublin over the Easter holidays.
The Inchmarlo hockey team have been crowned Northern Ireland Champions, for the sixth time, following success at the Northern Ireland Mini Hockey Finals, on Friday 31st March. A total of 155 primary schools entered the competition at the start of the season, with the Inchmarlo team made up of three P7's, six P6's and one P5 eventually coming out on top.
During the tournament the boys finished top of their six team pool undefeated, won both cross over games, defeated Pond Park 2-0 in the semi final, before winning 1-0, in extra time, against Edenderry Primary School, from Banbridge. In total the boys played nine games, scoring seventeen goals and only conceding two. A fantastic achievement and a memorable occasion for all concerned.
On Wednesday 29 March, the Inchmarlo swim squad had a very early start on the road to Dublin for the Willow Cup. We had been invited down by Willow Park Prep ( Blackrock College ) due to a family connection with one of our Governors Mr William Yarr. It was a journey in to the unknown, but as always our boys were ready for the challenge. The gala was made up of six schools from all over the UK and Ireland and struck the correct balance between competitiveness and participation. We swam very well and had fourteen 1st Place finishes and eight 2nd place finishes throughout the meet. Sadly it wasn’t enough to wrestle the Willow Cup away from defending champions Dulwich Prep School, London but the boys came away with a real sense of pride and achievement.
The P6 boys couldn't wait to get round to the RBAI main office after swimming on Monday to get their hands on the Schools Cup trophy. Hopefully a few of them will have that privilege in a few years time when they line out for the school's 1st XV!
