At Inchmarlo, our mission shapes every aspect of school life. We are committed to creating an environment where each boy is known as an individual, encouraged to fulfil his potential and inspired to become a confident, compassionate and responsible member of society.

As part of the Royal Belfast Academical Institution family, we provide a rich and challenging educational experience that nurtures not only academic achievement, but also character, wellbeing and personal growth. We believe that education should prepare children not simply for the next stage of their learning journey, but for a lifetime of contribution, leadership and service.

Our Ethos

At the heart of Inchmarlo is a commitment to developing the whole child. We place equal importance on academic success, physical development, social confidence, emotional wellbeing and personal responsibility.

Our school community is built upon three core values:

Excellence

We encourage every child to strive for their personal best in the classroom, on the sports field, in the arts and in all areas of school life. We foster curiosity, resilience and a love of learning, helping our pupils develop the confidence to embrace challenge and achieve success.

Respect

We believe in the dignity and worth of every individual. Children are encouraged to show kindness, integrity and consideration for others, developing strong relationships and an understanding of their responsibilities within the school and wider community.

Participation

We believe that every child should play an active role in school life. Through participation in lessons, clubs, teams, performances, leadership opportunities and community initiatives, pupils develop confidence, teamwork and a sense of purpose.

Belonging and Pupil Leadership

A strong sense of belonging is central to the Inchmarlo experience. Our House System provides opportunities for children of all ages to connect, collaborate and contribute to the life of the school. Through inter-house competitions, charitable initiatives, leadership opportunities and shared experiences, pupils develop pride in their house and a deeper connection with the wider school community.

The House System also plays an important role in promoting pupil voice. House Captains and other pupil leaders are encouraged to share ideas, represent their peers and contribute positively to school improvement. In this way, boys learn that their views matter and that leadership is rooted in service, responsibility and example.

Flourishing Through Wellbeing

At Inchmarlo, we recognise that happy, healthy pupils are more likely to thrive and achieve their potential. We are therefore committed to promoting the wellbeing of all members of our school community through the roll out of the PERMA-V framework.

PERMA-V focuses on developing:

• Positive Emotion – experiencing happiness, gratitude and optimism.
• Engagement – becoming deeply involved in learning and activities.
• Relationships – building strong and supportive connections with others.
• Meaning – understanding purpose and making a positive contribution.
• Accomplishment – celebrating success, effort and personal growth.
• Vitality – promoting physical health, energy and healthy lifestyles.

By embedding these principles across school life, we aim to help every child flourish academically, physically, socially and emotionally.

Our Aim

We aim to provide a caring, ambitious and inspiring environment in which every boy can flourish. Through excellent teaching, enriching opportunities, strong pastoral care and meaningful relationships, we seek to develop young people who are confident, responsible and equipped to make a positive contribution to society.

Inchmarlo is a community in which children are encouraged to achieve, supported to belong and inspired to flourish.

The General Aims of the school are:

• To provide a working, caring and happy environment in which the potential of every child is realised.
• To promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual and physical development of pupils at the school and thereby society.
• To prepare such pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

These aims will be expedited by:

• The curriculum of the school which encompasses that which is laid down by the NI Curriculum and includes other ranges of experiences offered by the school, in school time or as extra-curricular activities.
• The climate of relationships, attitudes and styles of behaviour established in the school community.
