Message to Parents: In the event of closures

Inchmarlo will continue to follow the advice published by the Department of Education and the Public Health Agency. Currently schools are advised to adopt a ‘business as usual’ approach. However, as this is a developing situation, everyone is advised to check updated information on a regular basis at the PHA website.

In light of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Northern Ireland and measures put in place by the Republic of Ireland and other countries, we have been carrying out contingency planning in preparation for different scenarios including enforced school closure.

In the event of a closure the following will apply:

Communication

COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HOME RE: CLOSURES – website, social media and ParentMail

COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HOME RE: SCHOOL WORK – email, ParentMail and SeeSaw

Google Classroom will also be used where appropriate.

Class work

There will be work sent to facilitate learning at home. This should be in the region of 3 hours per day split between Literacy and Numeracy but can be completed at any time. It will be consolidation of previous work and not new topics. Reading will be on top of this.

Written work.

P1 – P4 will be a combination of workbooks, online resources and materials which can be emailed.

P5- P7 will be a combination of text books, workbooks and online materials from Literacy Planet and Mathletics

Reading

P1 – P2 – this will be explained in notes from the class teacher

P3 and P4 will have a selection of easy reads and Oxford Reading Tree resources to work through

P5 – P7 will have 3 new novels home with them as well as new targets set for Accelerated Reader.

Teachers will be available during normal working hours to mark work, provide feedback and to advise.

If school is closed there will be a daily briefing at 9am every morning to update you on the latest information. This will be done through ParentMail

Regards

A Smyth
