Welcome to P4
Primary 4 is an exciting and memorable year for our boys. As the final year of Key Stage 1, pupils continue to grow in independence, curiosity and confidence as learners.
Learning in Primary 4
We follow the Northern Ireland Curriculum, offering a broad and balanced programme in Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, Personal Development & Mutual Understanding, Physical Education and The Arts.
Hands-on experiences are a key feature of the year. Boys take part in Activity-Based Learning in the classroom and enjoy regular Forest School sessions, where they explore nature and learn outdoors.
World Around Us Topics
Throughout the year, our boys investigate exciting themes that develop their understanding of the wider world:
Home Sweet Home – All About Northern Ireland: Exploring local areas, landmarks, history and culture.
The Human Body: Learning how the body works, the role of organs and how to stay healthy.
World War Two: Discovering key events of the war and what life was like for children at the time.
Endangered Animals: Researching species at risk and ways we can protect them and their habitats.
Roots of Empathy
Our Primary 4 boys take part in the Roots of Empathy programme. Led by a trained instructor, it helps them understand their own feelings and those of others.
Every three weeks a baby visits the class. The boys track the baby’s growth and milestones, using each visit to spark discussions about emotions, kindness and mindfulness.
Sport and Physical Activity
Physical activity is an important part of life in Primary 4. Our boys enjoy:
Weekly rugby sessions to develop coordination, teamwork and a love of sport.
One Games session each week focusing on skills and cooperative play.
One PE lesson each week to build fitness, balance and confidence.
Music and the Arts
Boys take part in specialist music lessons twice a week, exploring singing, rhythm and instruments while developing their creativity and self-expression.
Preparing for the Next Stage
Primary 4 prepares our boys for the transition to Key Stage 2. We encourage increasing independence, responsibility for their own learning and a positive attitude to the new challenges ahead.
